WHY WELCOME?

First-time guests make up their minds whether or not they’re coming back in the first few minutes of their visit.

Think about that.

Before they hear the first note of music, before they hear the first word of a sermon or before anyone stands up and says, “Welcome,” in the service, most first-time guests have already made a conscious or subconscious decision about whether they’re coming back.

What might be hanging in the balance is someone’s opportunity to embrace Jesus.

That is why the Judson Welcome Team matters.

WELCOME TEAM MISSION

  • The Welcome Team Mission falls under the Judson Mission and Vision: To make disciples of Jesus Christ who love God and love people and to build a church of truth and grace.
  • Scripture tells us to be welcoming. "Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God." -Romans 15:7
  • The Welcome Team exists to extend a warm and loving welcome with a sense of belonging to everyone as they enter the doors of Judson so they can be open to the truth of God’s Word and because it ultimately it brings God glory!

WELCOME TIPS

SMILE
Let our guests and church family know you are happy to be at church by smiling!

HAVE GOOD HYGIENE
Most people know the awfulness of a handshake from someone with nasty breath. It sours an otherwise friendly and inviting encounter. So make sure to brush your teeth, shower, and come to church looking clean not just for our new guests but for everyone’s sake!

MAKE EYE CONTACT
Drifting eyes can make it look like you’d rather be somewhere else that usually makes the person your greeting feel less important .

TAKE INITIATIVE AND GREET
Don’t expect people to come to you. You’ll need actively greet and welcome.

LIMIT DISTRACTIONS
Avoid being on your cell phone or having lengthy conversations with friends. Focus on making everyone feel at home not just those that you know

AVOID AWKWARD QUESTIONS
Never ask are you new or is this your first time here? Although you may have the best intentions, this might make a guest feel awkward or unknown. Instead try phrasing your welcome to new guests “I don't think I’ve met you before” and introduced yourself. Or "How long have you been coming to Judson?" And be sure to always offer guests help finding their way around the campus.

BE AT YOUR STATIONS ON TIME
Find your welcome lanyards at the welcome desk in the worship lobby and be at your assigned stations on time.

WELCOME TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Each entrance will be a team of two door holders.
  • One door holder is the stationary greeter. The greeter’s responsibility is to man the door and welcome guests.
  • The second door holder is the runner. The runner’s responsibility is to help guests find their way around. If it’s before Sunday School, introduce them to the SS director. If there are kids,  help parents with check in and knowing the flow of Sunday. Parents need to know where their kid’s will be at all times. Also give first time guests a welcome packet.
